Pretty. Passe.

For the sake of comparison, this is my holiday/party dress that I was planning to wear to this year's end-of-the-year parties, before I found the blue Armani Exchange dress. Except my version of this dress is black and the secondary color is champagne/gold. It also needs to be hemmed, because I am a stumpy little forest person (just kidding). It's a beautiful, soft, swingy, silk dress that can be worn in a few different ways. Still, I'm thinking I'll save it for spring, or for the next time I go salsa dancing or something (which, come to think of it, makes total sense because I believe the new boyfriend likes to salsa).

Edit: I realized I'll probably be going to a fancy restaurant with my ex for his B-day this weekend, and this dress will be perfect. I need to get it hemmed, STAT.

So classic!

Which means it makes perfect sense for you to buy the blue one to wear immediately -- that look will go "out" sooner and needs to be enjoyed at its peak of chic, while this one will look just as current at some later date when you're too swamped to shop and are glad to have something gorgeous in the closet.

Interesting point, Wende. I admit I snapped up the black dress (heavily discounted) without having an actual place to wear it. But I know it'll come in all kinds of handy. Memo to my friends: get married so I can wear it to your wedding.

I hate to think the blue dress will go out of style. I hate to think that anything I buy will go out of style. Knowing me, I'll wear it long after it's trendy, and not give a crap. :)

I'm getting the feeling that I was completely wrong in interpreting you as a strict fashionista (the kind who must have this minute's trend), as opposed to someone who simply likes fun clothes and has made an effort to know something about the topic.

C- for me on Reading Comprehension.

There's a whole bunch of insights you've given me on the shoe issue that I haven't had the energy to blog yet...

Oh geez. No, I'm not a trendy person at all. I hate the idea of disposable fashion and the notion that you're supposed to throw out your entire wardrobe and start anew each season. Instead, I buy clothes with an eye for beautiful colors, great fits and flattering cuts...then wear them until they get holey/stained.
